WE’LL BE CRUISING

The BHS Class of ’64 Committee met and we have chosen a date and destination for our cruise! The meeting ws attended by, Pam Brin, Judy Fuoco, Pat Thatcher, Kathy Sperakis, Carole Patanjo and Joe Del Broccolo.

We have chosen August 22 as the date. We will be leaving from New York City on the Carnival Glory for a 5-night cruise to Nova Scotia. The cost starts at $449 per person and stops at: St John’s and Halifax.

The more who join us, the better and cheaper it can become! It is a cruise north and a relief from the heat and humidity from the dog days of August!

Carnival Glory cruise ship menus are some of the most delectable at sea today! The highly-trained and experience chefs aboard this vessel are certain to provide you with the most sophisticated and appetizing cuisine that will satisfy all of your taste buds.
From the sumptuous, 5-course offerings of the Golden and Platinum dining rooms and the extensive variety of the Lido deck buffet, to a number of other specialty dining options including a sushi bar, European-style cafe, a 24 hour pizzeria, ice cream parlor and even round-the-clock, complimentary room service, there's always something satisfying and delicious available aboard the Carnival Glory-day or night!

If interested, please respond to: joedelbroccolo@yahoo.com
We are all looking forward to seeing you!

REUNIONS

Thought this was cute. We all fit in here somewhere!

THE CLASS REUNION

Every ten years, as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail.
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand;
Make plans to attend without fail.

I'll never forget the first time we met,
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
And wore our most elegant dress.

It was quite an affair; the whole class was there,
It was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,
And everyone thought it was swell.

The men all conversed about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses
And how beautiful their children became.

The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,
Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.

No one had heard about the class nerd
Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain,
Well, she married a shipping tycoon.

The boy we'd decreed "Most Apt To Succeed"
Was serving ten years in the pen.
While the one voted "Least" now was a priest;
Just shows you can be wrong now and then.

They awarded a prize to one of the guys
Who seemed to have aged the least...
Another was given to the grad who had driven
The farthest to attend the feast.

They took a class picture, a curious mixture
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini,
You never saw so many thighs.

At our next get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd ALL gone to pot!

It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores,
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw and beans.
Then most of us lay around in the shade,
In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.

By the fiftieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.

And now I can't wait; they've set the date;
Our sixtieth is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the old.

Repairs have been made on my hearing aid,
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.

I'm feeling quite hearty and I'm ready to party,
I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun, but I just hope that there's one
Other person who can make it that night!

OK THIS TIME PATANJO!

I would like to report, that the carrot cake was a big hit! The originator of this delicious culinary delight was the lovely Rae Rae, Pam Brin Rae! The woman can really bake them and bring them home. Unfortunately there were other goodies that I don’t know who brought, but the cake someone brought was particularly home made and brought home memories from when I was a child, and mom would bake.

We are getting closer to success! The committee is doing wonders and as the chair, I am really proud of the group. We are planning a great time and we are focusing on those of us who are coming from a great distance. I feel we should honor the trip and cost, and make it all worthwhile.

We have scheduled a new meeting for March 13th at 1:00 pm.

We have decided on a grand prize for the baby ID contest. If you tie with someone, we can easily split it up into the many winners. The prize is so good, that I decided I would probably get emotional about awarding it, so I’m asking Carol Patanjo to do so, while I leave the room.

We have some wonderful favors that we will give out as a ‘thank you for coming’, and the food will be great!

If you have not already, please get in touch with anyone you might know, and send them the word about our reunion, and our ice-breaker the night before. The icebreaker and tree planting on Saturday, the day before the reunion is pretty much in place, so we hope you will make both.

Remember to send me a picture for the contest of you as a baby. If you can, please scan it in and sent via e-mail to joedelbroccolo@yahoo.com ordelgraphics@optonline.net

Above all, please come with your spouse or significant other. I’m bringing the Little Woman as significant other and spouse.(or else).

As the lovely Miss Patanjo was leaving my home, she hauled off on me (she says accidentally) as she was saying goodbye, so when you see her for the first time, be careful!

The invitations will go out March 1st.

Monday, January 18, 2010

NEXT MEETING FEBRUARY 15, 2010

The Reunion Committee will be meeting on February 15, (President's Day)@ 1pm. We will meet at Joe Del Broccolo's house.

Carole Patanjo will be entertaining us with selections from her favorite operas!

Pam Rae will be changing her last name, and Joe Del Broccolo needs directions to the meeting.

MORE TREE

An advisor from the middle school at Bellport (Veronica Bradley) contacted me today. We discussed what day and time to do the tree planting, and I said tentatively that Saturday at 12 noon. The 8th grade class would like to partake in the event and I think that would be very nice! Ms. Bradley also said she would look into getting a donation for the tree, and I mentioned that I would like the tree to be on the Station Road side of the school, since that was where the original high school was.

PLANTING THE TREE FOR LIFE!

The Bellport Middle School vice-principle contacted me to advise me that we may plant our memorial tree! It will be planned for the weekend of the main event. A student advisor will be in touch with me in a short while to work out the details. They would like the student council to be part of the ceremony. I was similarly advised that we may put a marker made by Pam Brin to note the tree and memorial.
